Main Street programs nationwide are now invited to submit their applications for the 2027 Great American Main Street Awards. The awards highlight communities that demonstrate excellence in revitalizing their downtowns through innovative projects, preserved historic character, and strong community engagement. The application process is straightforward, with communities encouraged to showcase their most impactful initiatives and ongoing efforts to sustain downtown vitality.

Applicants will need to detail their strategies for economic development, historic preservation, and community involvement. The selection committee looks for projects that demonstrate measurable results, such as increased business activity, improved public spaces, or successful adaptation to modern needs while maintaining a sense of place. The deadline for submissions is approaching, and communities are urged to prepare their best examples of downtown success.

The awards are organized by the National Main Street Center and are considered among the most prestigious honors in the Main Street movement. Past recipients have used the recognition to bolster their efforts, attract new investment, and inspire other communities. The 2027 winners will be announced at the Main Street Now Conference, scheduled for May 3-5 in Detroit.

In addition to prestige, recipients often receive resources and publicity that can help sustain their revitalization projects. The application process is designed to be accessible; communities can review detailed instructions on the Main Street website. The deadline and specific submission requirements are also outlined there.

The Main Street Now Conference in Detroit will feature a range of sessions, networking opportunities, and keynote speakers focused on innovative downtown strategies. Attendees will get a chance to learn from award winners and hear about the latest trends in place-based economic development. Registration details and early-bird savings are available on the conference site, encouraging local leaders to participate and bring back new ideas.

The awards emphasize tangible results that communities can replicate. Whether it’s transforming vacant storefronts into vibrant retail spaces or creating community-focused events that draw visitors, the focus remains on sustainable, inclusive growth. Logansport, Ohio, and other Ohio communities have historically participated in the program, showcasing their efforts to revitalize Main Street.
